Relax and lose yourself in our maze at Russborough.

The maze is yet another fascinating feature at Russborough. Planted in 1989 and designed by Adrian Fisher and Rondoll Coate of Minotaur Designs the design reveals a clue to the identity of its owners, the Beits. Since Sir Alfred’s family were early pioneers of the diamond trade the centre of the maze leads to a diamond shape.

Russborough is a stunning Palladian mansion overlooking some of the most impressive views in Ireland. Designed in 1741 by Richard Cassels, it took 10 years to build what has been described as “one of the most beautiful houses in Ireland”. (Bruce Arnold, The Irish Times, 1997) With the Wicklow mountains and Blessington lakes just a stone’s throw away the setting is idyllic.

Sir Alfred and Lady Beit bought Russborough in 1952 to house their impressive art collection. They left this historic mansion, its collections and their fascinating life story to the Irish public in 1978. From this extraordinary act of generosity we welcome you to one of Ireland’s most unique visitor attractions. We offer a top of the range house tour, a unique 3D exhibition, a maze, gift shop, free walkways, self catering accommodation and cafe. Our Artisans display many unique crafts from candle making, blacksmithing and wood sculpting to goldsmithing, weaving and ceramics in their studios in the outhouses of Russborough.

Come and enjoy one of Ireland’s finest Visitor Attractions.

Russborough is a not for profit organization. All monies generated through events, visitors and sales are invested in the careful upkeep of Russborough and its Demesne.

Visitors Testimonials

I want to thank you for the most amazing weekend! All of us, including the kids, were really sad to leave. We didn't leave Russborough once over the weekend and we could easily have stayed for longer. There is absolutely nothing we could suggest that you can improve on, everything was just perfect! It is definitely one of the most special places I have ever stayed in!

“Thank you so much for the welcome in Russborough on Wednesday evening past. It is really an amazing experience - the basement which is totally transformed since I last saw it and the house is beautiful and particularly so at night with the soft lighting.”

Paula Fitzpatrick Avoca Tours

"Why did I go? Several reasons, perhaps the most compelling of all being the indisputable fact that this is the most beautiful house in Ireland and should be visited from time to time to take pleasure in that fact alone."

Bruce Arnold The Arts. The Irish Independent.

"It’s absolutely gorgeous here. Looking out my window I can see the Wicklow mountains in the distance... it’s an absolutely beautiful day to visit."

Sean Moncrieff Newstalk FM. Live Interview with Eric Blatchford, CEO. 2010.

“Many congrats on the Interactive Exhibition. It is so impressive and must have taken so much hard work. Your talk was excellent also, so informative and interesting. The best I have been at. I have been telling everyone about it.”

Fiona Candon, First Western, Carrowkeel

"Everybody very much enjoyed last night for which thanks to all concerned. It was a memorable final eveningand the house looked stunning in the twilight. It has been many years since I visited the house and I must congratulate you on the wonderful work you have done during your time. The interactive exhibition is wonderful and of course my favorite part is the interactive table and the Butler’s duties.”
